Indian coffee culture, roasted on Moreland Avenue

Skip the usual third-wave pour-over and try coffee with an Indian accent instead. Raani roasts its own beans and builds its menu around Indian coffee traditions, a real departure from East Atlanta Village staples like Joe's.

It's part of the neighborhood's wider restaurant revival, bringing flavors the local coffee scene hadn't really touched before. Worth the detour if you're bored of oat-milk flat whites.

Raani has beautiful Indian-inspired aesthetics with soft jazz in the background, creating a cozy space to relax, study, or work. We tried the Madras kaapi, cardamom and coriander bun, and spinach and paneer scone. The kaapi had a comforting homemade feel but was roasted a bit darker than the traditional Madras filter coffee you’d find in India. It was served in a paper cup—an eco-friendly choice, though a ceramic or stainless-steel cup for dine-in would make the experience feel more authentic. 3/5 for the kaapi. The cardamom and coriander bun is popular for a reason—we were lucky to get the last one! It paired perfectly with the kaapi, just as the barista recommended, and I’d definitely order it again. The spinach and paneer scone was crisp, flavorful, and the seeds added a lovely earthy touch. 5/5 for both the bun and the scone. One small suggestion: the open storage area feels slightly out of place compared to the modern seating area, and a simple partition could make the space feel even more cohesive

Visited Raani Coffee Shop in Atlanta after seeing it on Instagram, so I had pretty high expectations going in. Unfortunately, I wasn’t as impressed as I hoped to be. The concept is interesting — a coffee shop with Indian-inspired flavors, and I liked that they use jaggery as a sugar alternative in some of their drinks. They also roast their coffee in-house, which is a nice touch. We tried the Madras Kaapi, which tasted decent but felt pretty normal overall. I honestly would’ve loved the experience more if they had served it in an authentic Indian-style steel tumbler and saucer, which could have added more character to the presentation. The Gulab Jamun Latte was okay as well, but nothing particularly memorable. Overall, it feels like a regular coffee shop with some Indian flavor influences rather than a fully unique experience. That said, it’s still a pretty new place, and I hope they continue to develop the concept and grow into the crowd they’re aiming for.

Absolutely loved this coffee shop! Even on a rainy day, the atmosphere was bright and welcoming! There were plenty of people behind the counter, so the orders came in quickly. As for the chef/baker- please don’t ever let go of her! The sweet and savory pastries, with a touch of Indian flavors are well worth the visit! They keep replenishing them all morning! Can’t wait to go back!

inspired cafe and roastery that has quickly become a standout in the East Atlanta neighborhood. Founded by Praveena Sundarraj, a fifth-generation tea farmer and Q Grader, the shop focuses on "kaapi" (traditional South Indian filter coffee) and unique flavor profiles that bridge heritage with modern coffee culture. Reviewers frequently praise the high quality of the house-roasted beans and the fact that the drinks are well-balanced rather than overly sweet. • Signature Drinks: Known for the Salted Jaggery Latte, Gulab Jamun Latte, and traditional South Indian Filter Kaapi made with a brass filter. • House-Made Pastries: Offers unique bakes like cardamom coriander buns, masala cheddar biscuits, and sun-dried tomato chutney and curry leaf biscuits. • Atmosphere: The space is described as bright, clean, and community-oriented, featuring a mix of casual couch seating and high tables suitable for getting work done. • Amenities: The cafe provides free Wi-Fi and is wheelchair accessible, though some visitors note that turning into the parking lot can be tricky during peak Moreland Avenue traffic.
