Charleston's only independent luxury department store finally crosses the river

Gwynn's has run the Mount Pleasant side of Charleston luxury retail for decades, always on the far bank of the Cooper River. Now it's taking 154 King Street, its first ever peninsula address.

The three-storey brick building needed a seven-figure renovation: a new lift, a restored façade, two floors rebuilt into usable retail. Workers found a hundred-year-old woman's shoe in the ceiling, a clue to the building's past life.
