Colonial-era tea recipes finally get a storefront off King Street

Bohea and Young Hyson aren't names you see on many menus. This shop's whole catalog is built on colonial-era tea and toddy recipes that used to reach you only through other retailers' shelves.

The John Street address gave the brand its first physical home after years as a West Ashley wholesale operation. Fitting, too: a business built on history now sits in the part of Charleston where history is hardest to miss.

I’m so impressed with Oliver Pluff Tea Co. Not only are their tea blends wonderfully fresh and full of flavor, but their customer service is some of the best I’ve ever experienced. They resolved my issue immediately and went above and beyond to make sure I was happy. A truly exceptional company.

I had a weekend trip to Charleston. I have bought these teas at a local kitchen store downtown but was excited to go to the actual store of Oliver Pluff & Co. I was able to sample Countess Grey freshly steeped (very mild and tasty). I picked up a few good teas and a teapot to add to my collection. And the store clerk was super friendly.

Took a kintsugi class with my partner and her and I had a blast! The tea was delicious, the staff was so friendly, and I will definitely be back sooner than later.

My husband and I attended the Kintsugi workshop on Valentines Day weekend, and it was a great experience! The owners were lovely and gave us a lot of guidance throughout, in addition to excellent tea and snacks. I highly recommend a workshop at this cute store!

Stopped in right before a show at the Charleston Music Hall (literally next door) and was genuinely impressed by both the selection and the historical character of this shop. It’s the kind of place you don’t expect to find such depth and quality if you’re just popping in quickly but I ended up spending more time than planned because everything was so well curated. I picked up a stainless steel tea infuser pipe and a pretty serious lineup of teas: Jasmine, Earl Grey, Ginger Peach, Irish Breakfast, Darjeeling, Masala Chai, Peach Sun Tea, plus cacao cinnamon tea bags. Every tin was beautifully packaged and clearly labeled, and the variety alone was impressive from classic black teas to more unique blends. What really stood out, though, was the customer experience. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely enthusiastic about the products, happy to explain the differences between teas and make recommendations without any pressure. You can tell they care about both the history of tea and helping customers find something they’ll actually enjoy. If you’re heading to a show at the Music Hall or just walking around downtown, this is absolutely worth the stop. Great products, great people, and a shop that feels like part of Charleston’s character rather than just another retail spot. I’ll definitely be back
