Cafe Pisolino

An espresso bar under a 1927 Loop institution

Italian Village has occupied 71 W Monroe since 1927, and the building has held four restaurants and bars over the decades. On June 5, 2026, fourth-generation owners Jonathan and Giovanni Capitanini opened a fifth: Cafe Pisolino, an espresso bar on the ground floor.

A pisolino is the short midday pause the cafe is named for, and the format matches it: coffee, something light, then back out the door. The house latte runs on gianduja-infused milk, and the counter holds mbriulatas, prosciutto cornetti, and tomato tarts. Open 7am to 4pm, Tuesday through Saturday.

10/10 experience! Considering most lattes around Chicago are $7+, I love how affordable the prices are here. I had an excellent latte and will be coming back to try their pastries. I guarantee the decor is unlike any coffee shop you've ever visited, so it's worth coming for the ambiance alone. The staff is also very friendly and welcoming :).

I just stumbled across Cafe Pisolino while looking for coffee shops to work at in the Loop. The interior is really one of a kind, it has that cozy global coffeehouse feel that you'd get from an old Panera or something. I didn't try any of the baked goods, but I got the house latte with the gianduja and it was perfectly balanced flavor wise, not too sweet or bitter, with a nice strong hazelnut flavor. It was quiet and there were plenty of tables and booths for working. I will be back!

Coffee is fantastic, service is quick and the space is so gorgeous and unique! Happy they didn't renovate to make it look like an elevated starbucks
