Culebra
Chicago Opened April 2026
A Caribbean speakeasy in the basement under Lonesome Rose
Golden Teardrops ran as the basement bar under Lonesome Rose in Logan Square for years, then closed in February 2026. Culebra took over the same room that April. Owner Diego Garcia-Gonzalez built the list around spirits, beers and non-alcoholic drinks from Latin America and the Caribbean, with Puerto Rico out front.
Drinks lean toward plantain rum shots and highballs made with Malta. The short food menu holds a ribeye and plantain sando, chicken pinchos, and arroz con jueyes with pegao rice and blue crab salmorejo. It stays open to 2am on weeknights and 3am on Fridays, which is most of the point of a basement bar.
