Guatemalan beans, empanadas and a mother-daughter counter
Terra opened on West Belmont Avenue on 1 July 2026, run by a mother and daughter who rebranded their earlier Avondale cafe and moved it a few doors along. The coffee comes from Guatemalan grower Luis Minaz, and a $124,081 city storefront-rehab grant paid for most of the build.
Terra means soil, and the logo is a volcano, a nod to the volcanic soil feeding the farms the beans come from. Masks, paintings and Mayan figurines carried back from Antigua fill the room. Alongside espresso there are empanadas, pastries, breakfast burritos and grab-and-go salads.

- Right next to the Belmont Blue Line station, open from 6am on weekdays.

Love this place! The horchata latte is AMAZING. I have to stop myself from inhaling it. The green chorizo burrito is also sooo good !! And the owner is so kind. Great little neighborhood coffee shop

I was finally able to visit this coffee shop. What a delicious sandwich and coffee I had. I’ll definitely come back to try other menu things but honestly will always probably get the chapin sandwich because it was the most delicious one I have ever tried. I appreciated that they have screen where you can track the CTA blue line and buses that are around the area. It’s such a caring touch for those of us that use public transportation to move around. You cant miss your bus/train when you always know when it’s coming 💕

A great place to study free wifi and great treats! There are a lot of different food and drink options avalible but i think my favorite item has to be the breakfast sandwich 🤤❤️ it has this spicy mayo that tastes so good! 😍 There is also a bus tracker located near the counter thats super helpful if youre taking the train or bus from the stop next door

Went to the soft opening of their new location. It is even more sweet than the OG location. I love that they have the CTA bustracker live for commuting folks dropping on for a quick coffee en route. It's more than a place for folks on the go. It is also a perfect workspace, comfortable reading space, and a great space to meet a friend (which i did). Bonus is their delicious breakfast sandwich with plantains/black bean spread and their own ethically sourced coffee brand.
