Six rooms, botanical gardens, a two-minute walk to Dog Beach

Kona Kai Resort's Key Largo owners bought this six-room guesthouse on South Street and reopened it as their first Key West property. They kept the small scale and reworked the rooms, gardens and pool instead of expanding.

It sits at the quiet southern end of Old Town, close to Dog Beach, Higgs Beach and the Southernmost Point, and about ten minutes from the Duval Street noise. No restaurant or bar here, just bikes, off-street parking, a stocked fridge and a pool and sundeck ringed by botanical gardens.

Good to know

• Six rooms only - book well ahead for winter.
• Bikes and parking are included, which is rare this deep into Old Town.
