El Chingon Fishtown
★ 4.0 · 95 reviews Philadelphia Opened June 2025
The South Philly taquería's second spot, with a corner patio.
El Chingon opened its Fishtown location on Frankford Avenue in June 2025, on a corner with a patio attached. The South Philly original built its reputation on cemitas, and they made the trip north intact.
Elote, tacos, cemitas. Margaritas were still coming when it opened, so check before you plan the evening around them. The Infatuation added it to the Hit List.

The food was good, I like flavor not salt. And they did just the right flavor. The service was a touch screen. And it was hot today. They didn't have enough fans. But it was good. Oh, and it's outside, no inside dinning 🍽. So if the weather is bad, pick up and go. 👍🏾👍🏾

All for supporting local businesses but my experience with Chingon left me less than satisfied. A single burrito came out to $23 (they also flip a iPad at you asking for a tip when it’s a take out window). When I got the burrito it came with fries so ok the price makes slightly more sense but still expensive. I walked 5 minutes home and the first bite of the fries they were cold and stale. Also came with no dipping sauce. Fine. Maybe the burrito is the saving grace here. Wrong. I got the chicken and it was about 70% rice and without the salsa they provided there was no real flavor to the whole thing. Given the price of this place, and my experience there. I will not be back.

I love this place. They’re a block away and I think we hit them up about once a month. Everything I try is a banger and I think the value is spectacular for what you get. We’ve been trying the ceviches and aguachiles and the quality is unreal for the price point. Each dish has so much thought and intention, like I just tried the chapeada salad for the first time and even the freaking beans are perfectly cooked, the lettuce beautifully dressed—you could spend three times this much and not get a meal of this quality. I feel so lucky to have it in the neighborhood for my birria fix.

First of all, I had high expectations entering the venue, but I was dissapointed. The tacos were bland and embarrasingly small (we left having spent $40+ dollars and still hungry!). My girlfriend and I asked for extra salsa yet were only given one little container (this was our only staff encounter). The salsas were not spicy or flavorful, which was shocking. I wish there would have been more limes too. I would justify buying these tacos if they were just much cheaper. This review may seem harsh, but my frustration is inflated by the prices. The cost of the tacos did not match the quantity nor the quality, hence the poor rating. The restaurant itself has a really great location, extremely cute, and has great outdoor patio seating.

I don’t understand the negative reviews. My burrito was fantastic, and with the homemade fries that come with it a great deal for $18. All sauces and ingredients were fresh and delicious. I’m from NYC so maybe I’m just used to paying that much, but I felt the price was justified and the food was great.
