Fabric Row's first new fabric shop in forty years

Handloom woven cloth, batik and natural fibers by the yard fill the shelves, alongside vintage Indian silver jewelry. Fashion literature and mending materials share the room too, an argument for sewing your own clothes.

Designer Matthew Addonizio opened Approved Textiles at 710 South 4th Street in November 2024, funded through Kickstarter and stocked from his own slow-fashion practice. It's the first new fabric store on Fabric Row in about forty years. Billy Penn called it a revival moment for the historic row.

Good to know

Come for natural fibers (handloom cottons, batik and linen) not synthetics.
The shop also stocks fashion literature and mending supplies if you're sewing-curious rather than a pro.

I took the intro to sashiko class and Loran was an incredible teacher, perfect amount of supplies and handouts to bring home, and the vibe of the class and the entire shop is very peaceful and creative. It was a great time!

This little store is great! Nicely curated and I like that they stock size inclusive patterns. They also have a number of visible mending patterns to use and I got the Gritty one. It’s really cool!

I was recently at Mood Fabrics in NYC looking for linen for a lightweight, wrap dress I'm make, but despite Mood's extensive selection I did not find what I was looking for. I was really delighted to find lots of gorgeous linen yardage at Approved Textiles that absolutely fit my needs, and the shop's pricing was very good for the type of fabric they offer. Very happy that I was able to find sustainable and beautiful fabric at this shop. Will definitely return!

Excellent store! Beautiful fabrics and patterns. This is the best place for sewing supplies, sustainable and unique. I took several classes here, shishiko, and darning were favorites Also carry fine candles and soap from Marseille.
