1970s comfort food on Dekum Street

LaVerne's does braises and casseroles in a room that feels like your coolest aunt's rumpus room, low light, loose energy, nothing precious about it. It's comfort food that leans nostalgic without going full kitsch.

It's become one of the anchors of Dekum Street's little restaurant row, a few doors from Lil' Barbecue. Go for dinner, stay for a drink at the bar. This room wants you to linger.

Chicken was smackin, nachos got destroyed, tacos came ready to play, drinks are worth fighting over, and the staff is actually pretty cool?? Pretty dope music spot too if that’s your thing! I think we should make a yearly award for best business with mini cocktails AND a rotisserie chicken and then just give it to them every time.

Laverne's is still relatively new to Portland but it feels like a bar that has been here all along. The drinks are incredible and oh so very well curated not to mention straight up fun (whether you're in the mood for a Midnight at the Oasis or a Frog and Toad). Their rotisserie chicken is elevated and delicious but DO NOT sleep on their amazing beans to chase each bite of chicken. To top it all off the place is outright welcoming based on decor alone, which is only enhanced by the very hospitable staff and crew. My fiance and I recently used this lovely bar as a backdrop for a wedding photo shoot and their team was so accommodating at allowing us to use their space and even whipping up some tasty mocktails to use as props. Look no further, all ye who seek Portland's best neighborhood bar.

Only just discovered LaVerne’s a friend invited me up to Cully for a drink. I was so impressed I came back two days later with some more friends and ate everything on the menu. They’ve basically nailed the Portland “elevated dive bar” aesthetic l. Every touch point from the lighting to the layout to the lighter taped to a toy alligator has been thought through. Met one of the owners who was serving and he was super nice. Both times I went were busy but still managed to find a table outside. Will go back and check out the party space upstairs. Get the rotisserie chicken and the ceviche! Yum

Obsessed with this perfectly curated neighborhood bar! It is so dang cute and the horchata slushie was amazing! I also really appreciate how almost every food choice is gluten free! We ordered the nachos and a side of fried potatoes. Both were fantastic!

Awesome bar. Vintage style. Great cocktails, very reasonable prices. Awesome rotisserie chicken and sides. Love the vibes here. Gets very busy however.
