Library Shop Mission Hills
★ 4.8 · 24 reviews San Diego Opened December 2025
A former library, now a bookstore that funds the library
Every dollar spent here goes back to the San Diego Public Library system: it's a for-profit shop run by a nonprofit. New books share shelf space with gifts and merch picked for book people.
The old Mission Hills library sat empty since 2019. The Library Foundation SD reopened it as this shop in December 2025, the second Library Shop after the one inside downtown's Central Library. The neighborhood had gone years without a bookstore of its own, and local coverage showed it.
Good to know
- Closed Mondays and Tuesdays at this location; the original Library Shop inside the downtown Central Library keeps longer hours.
- All proceeds go to the San Diego Public Library, so gift shopping here counts as a donation.

This place was AWESOME!! Also on the Bookstore Crawl tour. Again, as with all the locations we went to, service was helpful and efficient. So many good things for sale for bibliophiles. I felt like the book selection was limited, but it had enough to find something in any genre you might want to look for. Lots of stationery here as well. Respectfully Reviewed.

Lovely independent bookstore that has emerged from the San Diego Public Library system.

I really loved this bookstore. It has so many amazing book related items. The book selection is not big like a major retailer but it's got a great selection. There is a 8 car parking lot right next door to the library as well as street parking. They had so many book items mixed in between books that it made it really fun to browse. For example journaling items, postcards, greeting cards, stickers, keychains, bookmarks and many more things. Staff was very friendly and helpful as well. Definitely recommend as a must visit for any book lover.
