Aji Kiji

A small Japanese room on Kearny Street
Aji Kiji opened on Kearny Street in autumn 2025, on the block between Pine and Bush where the Financial District climbs uphill toward Chinatown. It is a small Japanese room, the kind that fills up on twelve or fourteen seats.
This stretch of Kearny is steep enough that most people walking it are headed somewhere else, so the restaurants here run quiet at lunch and full by seven. Dinner needs a booking. Lunch does not.

As someone who genuinely loves sushi and regularly enjoys omakase, I had an exceptional experience at Aji Kiji. I ordered the $72 Kaisen Don and the $30 Hand Roll, and both exceeded my expectations. Every element was thoughtfully prepared—the quality and freshness of the fish, the perfectly seasoned rice, and even the house-made pickles all came together in perfect harmony. The presentation was stunning, and the flavors were just as impressive as the visual appeal. What makes Aji Kiji especially unique is that it offers an authentic, omakase-quality experience that you can enjoy at home without compromising on quality. For sushi lovers, that’s an incredible advantage and something that’s hard to find. The ingredients tasted exceptionally fresh, the balance of flavors was refined, and every bite reflected great attention to detail. Considering the quality, I found it to be an excellent value. If you’re looking for premium Japanese cuisine in the Bay Area, I highly recommend Aji Kiji. I’ll definitely be coming back.

Aji Kiji is one of those places that actually lives up to the hype. The quality of the fish is outstanding—everything tasted incredibly fresh, with clean flavors that let the ingredients speak for themselves. The rice was well seasoned, although I personally thought it had just a touch too much vinegar. The presentation is beautiful, and every piece feels thoughtfully crafted. It's definitely not the cheapest takeout sushi, but unlike many trendy spots, I felt the quality justified the price. This is the kind of sushi I'd happily treat myself to again. My only advice is to order early because popular items sell out quickly. If you're looking for high-quality takeout sushi in San Francisco, Aji Kiji is absolutely worth trying.

I arrived around 10:50 today and there were already 10 people waiting ahead of me, and a lot of people were buying takeout. I ordered the omakase and the 6-piece sushi, and every single piece of fish was so fresh and delicious. To be honest, I usually find sushi a bit fishy and disappointing at many places, but surprisingly, even the types of fish that usually have a strong smell didn't smell fishy at all here. It was such an amazing experience because it was so fresh! The portions felt a bit smaller than they looked in the photos, but it was still a very satisfying and delicious meal. People kept lining up behind me, and now I completely understand why it's so popular. I highly recommend everyone give it a try!

One of the best takeout sushi experiences I’ve had. The freshness of the ingredients really stands out—everything tastes clean, precise, and high quality, from the fish to the rice. You can tell there’s real attention to detail in how each piece is prepared. The packaging is also impeccable. Everything arrives neatly organized, secure, and thoughtfully presented, which makes a big difference for takeout. Nothing feels rushed or sloppy—it’s clear they care about the full experience, not just the food itself. Overall, it’s a place I keep coming back to because it’s reliable, fresh, and consistently well executed. The only small note is that it would be great to see takeout orders prioritized a bit more during busy times, as that would make an already excellent experience even smoother.
