A sushi room on California Street, opened May 2026
Don opened on California Street in May 2026, in the stretch of Pacific Heights between Fillmore and Steiner that runs mostly to small service businesses and the occasional restaurant. The menu is sushi and rice bowls, the format the name points at.
The 1 California bus runs directly past the door, which is how most of the neighbourhood gets here. It is a compact room and reservations move faster than walk-ins at weekends.

This is such an amazing underrated sushi place! I stopped by on my long walk and the sashimi was amazing as well as the unagi don. Do not skip this place!!! Amazing price too!

The sushi is great, the small plates (gyoza, karaage, etc) are great, but the rice in the donburi I had was a little dry and hard. I know this is a grab and go spot, primarily, but stale rice is such a bummer. If you stick to the sushi and small bites it's such a good spot (with great prices!)

Amazing quality fish and service! Loved the salmon ikura don and the tuna sashimi. They gave us a fruit cup for free which was so nice!

Food was good and good prices. We got calif rolls for my son, the chefs choice, and the two two two. Tasty sushi and I liked how they didn’t put an overload of rice!
