Taqueria Gonzalez opened on San Bruno Avenue in May 2026, on the Portola's main commercial strip rather than in the Mission where most visitors go looking for tacos. The street mixes Latino and Chinese businesses and gets almost no tourist traffic.

The Portola is one of the last parts of San Francisco where a family restaurant can open on a main road without a corporate landlord in the way. That shows in the prices, which sit well below anything on Valencia.

The tacos at this place tasted great! The most important thing for me was that the meat was well seasoned. Really good tacos. I especially liked the Al Pastor and the Steak. Aside from the food, the staff were really nice also. The place itself also looked clean and felt comfortable to dine in. Highly recommend this place if you’re looking for a good taqueria. Will come back to try their other menu items.

After reading Matt Y.'s review, I came here to try their carnitas. He is 100% right. The carnitas in my taco salad $14 were terrific! The bigger meat pieces were tender and moist. The ends were crispy with bits of crunchy strands. The rest of the taco salad wasn't bad either. They use chopped pieces of romaine lettuce on top of beans and rice. Love that fresh lettuce snap when I bite into it. As for the edible tortilla bowl, this tasted fresh and not stale like some other establishments. It was fluffy and breaks apart easily when I pulled on it. There was a good balance of guacamole, sour cream, pico de gallo and cheese. It came with free chips & salsa. Bring a jacket. They leave the front door open and it was freezing tonight at 8pm. This is the type of taqueria where you order and pay at the cashier. My food came out within 15 minutes. We’ve come here for over 10 years and not once has the quality or the service been less than stellar ♥️ these hardworking and kind folks offer fresh and consistent deliciousness, always with a smile on their faces. They have served their neighborhood for many more years than we’ve known them. Come here and come here often, you won’t regret it!
