Five kinds of chai while everyone else does matcha

Chai Sutra opened on Stewart St in January 2026 and is making the case that chai deserves the attention matcha gets. Five versions are on the board.

Snacks are samosas, waffles and cucumber chutney sandwiches. Coffee exists here, but ordering it feels like missing the point.

We hosted an art event here. The place is thoughtfully curated and well lit. The people at the event all appreciated the location and the clean viby restroom. If you haven’t tried their Rose Chai and Matcha, you are missing out ! The cucumber chutney sandwich is very fresh. Sabudana khichdi has a home made taste with very less oil. Their chapali kabab burger is the best vegan burger I’ve ever tasted. Affogato is the perfect coffe and ice cream blend. I loved the concept of clean food and freshly cooked even if that means I get to enjoy the ambience longer. Their cups are beautifully designed that compliments the cafe style. The owners Vini and Sidharth are amazing at communicating and very accommodating. They kept the communication transparent and very supportive to the community.

Chai Sutra in downtown Seattle is truly a hidden gem that feels like a warm piece of India thousands of miles away from home. I visited with my wife and young daughter, and from the moment we stepped in, we were welcomed with genuine warmth and hospitality. The ambience is what sets this place apart— cozy, calming, and thoughtfully designed to make you slow down and savor the moment. It's not just a café; it's an experience. You can really feel the founder's vision of creating a space that brings people together over authentic chai and meaningful conversations. The tea itself was exceptional-rich, fragrant, and incredibly authentic. Every sip felt nostalgic, reminding us of the flavors back home. The bun muska was absolutely on point and paired perfectly with the chai, making the experience even more special. What made our visit even more memorable was how welcoming and kind the people were. They made us feel right at home, which is rare and truly special. If you're in Seattle and looking for a place with soul, warmth, and awesome chai, Chai Sutra is a must-visit. We'll definitely be coming back!

100% worth visiting - Amazing Poha, Ginger cardamom tea and the best part was Mumbai style simple yet delicious mint cucumber sandwich. This is not a sponsored review before anyone says otherwise. 🙂 1. Poha : it was so homey and well made. Just like you’d make it at home. It was healthy and delicious - not greasy, perfect balance of lemon, onions, green chilie kick and freshness of curry leaves. Portion size was perfect and unlike other Indian Restaurants where you instantly feel bloaty after a meal - the quality was top notch and you can sense it’s made with clean ingredients. 2. Mint cucumber sandwich: simplicity at its best. Not all dishes need bells and whistles- sometimes the simplest flavours speak the loudest. A simple Mumbai street food style cucumber, mint sandwich with the perfect balance of flavours. The bread had the sweetness you’d expect for an Indian sandwich with a delicious mint chutney, tamarind chutney and fresh cream. The sandwich was light, fluffy and super fresh. Again - simple yet delicious and not greasy/not lathered with butter. 3. Ginger cardamom chai - THANK YOU FOR NOT ADDING SUGAR. It was perfect with subtle notes of ginger and cardamom. Served in a cute small cup and freshly brewed. A few call outs: 1. This is NOT a rush order place. As the restaurant CLEARLY states on their menu, each item is made to order and takes about 15 minutes of prep time. Don’t walk in expecting a quick grab and go meal. 2. A lot of folks expect bells and whistles and massive portions when they see an Indian restaurant. This place is a breath of fresh air where they make home style delicious snacks - not a place for anyone expecting massive portions and greasy/ excessively spicy chat style orders.
