Matcha and hojicha to go on S King St

Le Grey opened in March 2026 on S King St in the Chinatown-International District, a granite-heavy little shop built around tea. Matcha, hojicha, fruit teas, topped with sea salt cream or brown sugar boba.

There is barely any seating, so plan on taking it with you. The hojicha with sea salt cream is the one.

Very nicely decorated interior, kept clean. The teas are interesting and well made. The Misty Pu’er was very good, especially the dairy used (you could taste the milk and the tea; no cheap „no dairy creamer” substitute used). In my friends drink the strawberries used were also real strawberries.

I wanted to try the Avocado Mango, but they were out of Mango. They were also out of boba, which seems to me a theme at a lot places. Ended up trying the Matcha Island - Oat. I’d recommend it if you like coconut and matcha. Customer service was great as they ended up giving us a slight discount. Would go back again to try other drinks on the menu.

We tried the Matcha Makio and the Misty Pu’er at Le Grey, and both drinks were pretty good. You can actually taste the tea quality here, the matcha had a nice umami flavor, and the pu’er was smooth and balanced. The only thing we weren’t fully happy with was the cream top. It wasn’t bad, but we felt the flavor could’ve been a bit richer or more refined to really match the quality of the drinks underneath. Overall though, a solid milk tea spot with good tea flavor and quality ingredients.

I’ve been here twice and really enjoyed the drinks both times. On my first visit, I ordered a hojicha latte with oat milk and no sugar — it was delicious, with a rich roasted tea flavor. I also tried the misty puer at half sugar, which was a bit too sweet for my taste. This time, I went with no sugar again, and it was perfect. The staff kindly reminded me that the tea might taste bitter without sugar, which I appreciated. But since I usually don’t take sugar anyway, it wasn’t an issue at all. Once mixed with the cream, it actually didn’t taste bitter — just smooth with a subtle natural sweetness. Really well balanced and satisfying. I’ll definitely be coming back!

New tea place that replaced the old Yifang cafe. Most drinks are $7 - 8 without extra toppings, so you can budget around $10 after tip/taxes. I'm pretty picky about my green tea (especially with the unnecessary hype after 2024), so I was pleasantly surprised by by drink, Matcha Makio, and my friend's Matcha Cloudo. The matcha tasted similar to getting Tsujiri back in Asia - I requested less sugar and ice, if that helps someone. The jasmine green tea flavor really came through. The 16oz size was also perfect for holding. The space is very small, just a counter and waiting area (6 seats), so I'd recommend it as a grab and go place, rather than a typical cafe for chats.
