Gloom Coffee Bar

A roaster takes over the old Elm Coffee room
Gloom started as a bean roaster and in May 2026 took over the Elm Coffee space on 2nd Ave S. Weekdays only, 8am to 3pm, wiggly hand-painted walls.
Espresso is the focus for now, with non-alcoholic cocktails promised later. It's a good spot to work in before the lunch rush arrives.

People here are extremely friendly and make you feel comfortable. Coffee sweetness is just right and I didn’t have to make it half sweet like most cafes. Banana latte is a must try!

Absolute best service I've gotten so far a coffee shop in seattle! Super patient and helped me customize my drinks to the exact ratio of espresso and milk and it was perfect!! My 1:2 espresso to milk iced drinks with cardamom nutmeg and Nutella were amazing and I stayed for a while working (fast wifi and outlets too!) -- already can tell this will be a staple!

Exceptional roast and shots had here yesterday. I’m a snob, can’t tolerate a shop that doesn’t know how to source high quality beans then know how to pull great shots. The second the cortado entered my mouth it was refined flavor from all of the above. And, sitting at the bar made it even better. Barista gave us some nice treats while we were there.

Discovered Gloom by accident, and didn’t leave until the bitter end - that is, after enjoying a decaf espresso[1] with notes bitter enough that no one would want to share it with me[2], but flavorful enough that I can’t wait to repeat the experience. ;) The cafe is inviting, bright and airy, punctuated by plant life and ghost illustrations. Not gloomy! Plus, there's merch - stickers, tees, caps, hoodies - if you want to rep those same ghosts. Sip solo at the bar, or bring friends! Gloom’s “Doom" espresso is a delicious way to start the day, strong-yet-gentle. Want a pourover? Check their menu (I sampled one, it rocked). Glad this newcomer cafe is haunting Pioneer Square! Thanks to Alex for the conversation and coffee, and Josh for putting up with me. Credit accepted. Wi-Fi. And a bathroom. Into #pokemongo ? There are two Pokestops you can spin while sitting at the bar. [1] Sometimes you gotta regulate, even in Seattle. [2] Not that anyone would actually share an espresso. Get your own!
