Urban Garden Brewhouse

DC's first Black woman-owned brewery
Urban Garden opened on T Street in Shaw in July 2026 as the first Black woman-owned brewery in the city.
House craft beers on one side of the board, non-alcoholic drinks made with herbs and botanicals on the other. The NA list is treated as seriously as the beer, which is still unusual.

Brick walls covered in murals , a playlist you'll immediately want to save, and the only place where you can tell your significant other to "go touch grass"—only to have a surprisingly refreshing $8 lemongrass beer arrive with your order. Marvin, the bartender, brings the same level of craft and care to every beer and cocktail on the menu. The refreshing open-concept space complements a drink menu featuring organic and floral ingredients like rose petals, lavender, rosemary syrup, and more.

Absolutely loved my experience at Urban Garden Brewhouse! What truly made the visit special was the excellent service. A big thank you to Rochelle for going above and beyond to make me feel welcome. I also want to shout out to Sara and Juice—their energy, attentiveness, and recommendations really elevated the night. It’s rare to find a place with such great brews and a team that genuinely cares about your experience. I can’t wait to return.

The restaurant itself is really nice and spacious we got 2 mocktails, burger and wings and it came to about $90 when it was all said and done. On their menu they have you scan, it doesn’t disclose they add a 22% service charge to all tabs, all it says is “additional service charge applied at checkout”. We later found out it’s on the websites menu written really small. The mocktails with “adaptogens” tasted like watered down juice, it was disappointing because it was only about 8oz (if that) compared to what everyone else was getting -full size beers. Overall nice vibe, but overpriced!

Had dinner and drinks this evening. Was fantastic, far exceeded my expectations. The food was wonderful, had a bowl with dirty rice and ribeye and was super flavorful, tender ribeye and the rice and tomatoes and onions just melded together to produce a great meal. Had the orange wit beer - subtle and really refreshing. Then went for ‘the shrub’ drink and it was complex and just beyond what I expected. I’ll be back and look forward to seeing what they do beyond week one. Welcome to the neighborhood and thank you for putting passion into your menu.

Such a great spot! Came with our baby and had great drinks and snacks. They even brought our baby some fresh fruit, so sweet. Beautiful setting. Will return!
