Royal court Korean cooking, $115 a head
Onggi opened on P Street in April 2025 with a $115 tasting menu drawn from Korean royal court cooking, a register almost nobody in DC works in.
White pear kimchi, abalone from Jeju grilled in butter, japchae. If the full menu is too much there is an à la carte side with grilled short rib and fried chicken wings.

I went there yesterday with my toddler, and the staff were fantastic. They noticed that we were dining with a young child and made sure our food came out extra quickly, which I really appreciated. On other visits, the experience has been more relaxed and leisurely, so it’s clear that the staff are very intuitive and adjust the pace of service to each customer’s needs. The food was terrific—authentic, high-quality, and honestly the best Korean food I’ve had in DC. Highly recommend!

If you're looking for authentic Korean food, you should check this place out. Their kimchi is homemade and is honestly the best kimchi I've ever had, which sounds hyperbolic, but I am being honest. I ordered Kimchi + Tofu, and vegan bulgogi, which were both incredible. The vegan bulgogi is crazy!! it looks like beef and tastes similar, but I can assure you there were no cows involved in the process. The staff was so friendly and genuine. If I don't come back for the food (I will), I'll at least come back to say hi (and then grab some food while I'm there).

★★★★★ ONGGI delivered one of the most satisfying Korean lunches I’ve had in the DC area. I ordered the Onggi Lunch Set and every component was executed with care and attention to detail. The grilled mackerel was the standout of the meal—perfectly cooked with crispy skin, moist flesh, excellent texture, and rich flavor without being overly oily. The kimchi stew was equally impressive, with a deep, comforting broth, tofu, and small pieces of meat (which I believe were pork ribs) that added great richness. The spice level was just right: enough heat to be authentic and flavorful without overwhelming the palate. The seafood pajeon was also excellent—crispy on the outside, tender inside, and packed with flavor. Even the multigrain rice deserves mention, as it was cooked to exactly the right texture, something that is often overlooked but makes a big difference in a traditional Korean meal. The presentation of the lunch set was beautiful and thoughtfully arranged, as you can see in the photos. The restaurant itself has a warm, modern Korean aesthetic that feels both elegant and welcoming. Service was attentive, professional, and efficient throughout the meal. What impressed me most was the balance of the entire experience: quality ingredients, careful preparation, attractive presentation, and genuine hospitality. ONGGI manages to feel contemporary while remaining faithful to the comforting flavors that make Korean cuisine so appealing. I would gladly return and highly recommend the Onggi Lunch Set to anyone looking for an authentic, well-executed Korean dining experience. Highly recommended. I’ll definitely be back

This restaurant is an absolute gem. The food is delicious, the decor is a vibe, it's just a wonderful place to eat at. The food is high quality, but the portion sizes are generous.

Went here on a Friday afternoon. It wasn't busy at all. The atmosphere is comforting, and the booth seats heat up! I've never seen anything like it. It's more of an upscale Korean restaurant, so it's a bit pricy, and they don't have some dishes like Jjamppong, but we enjoyed everything we ate. The seafood pancake was delicious, but I was in love with the golbi.
