Chicago dogs and soft serve in Tenleytown

Marv's opened on Wisconsin Avenue in May 2026 leaning entirely into neighborhood nostalgia: Chicago dogs, hand-cut fries, soft serve at the end.

It is the kind of counter you would have loved at nine. The difference now is that nobody stops you at the third chili dog.

Quality food, excellent service and super clean. Took our son and played some games in the arcade downstairs. We were craving a Chicago style dog and it did not disappoint - will definitely be back to try NY and Detroit styles. Fries were fresh and soft serve was on point. Definitely recommend Marv’s if you’re down for good dogs and good vibes.

I live in the neighborhood and have been meaning to stop by and support the place since it's just the kind of place we need around here but lack for the most part. I ordered the NY hotdog (mustard and saurkraut and onions --the only acceptable hot dog toppings lol). The hot dog came on a poppy seed bun which is unsual but I didn't taste the poppy seeds (didn't need to) and the bun was fine. The onions were purple and kind of fancier than expected but good. The hot dog itself was the perfect thickness (meaning not too thick) and was very good and had that crunch when you bite it which is rare and let's you know this is a good hot dog. On the whole the hot dog was very tasty and worth the $8 (that's just what stuff costs around here). I also got the fries which were skinny and crunchy and good but way too salty especially when paired with a salty hot dog (an easy fix just don't add so much salt). For dessert I had a chocolate malt (didn't taste the malt though) which was also very good but nearly impossible to drink after awhile with the paper straw they give you (plastic straws may be banned, I don't know, but if not please go back to normal straw). The place itself is very nice and clean and there are old school 80s arcade games down there which I played (1942, and old favorite). I feel like the downstairs could be a cool place to hang out--would be great if you served beer or something down there to encourage that, or had board games too, etc. Anyway I hope this place succeeds, I will be back again.

Really great hotdog, milkshake and fries. The store itself is really great, nice indoor and outdoor dining options. The basement arcade is a really great space, really cozy with a couple classics, a pinball machine, and a racing game. It’s definitely the sort of spot I’ll return to, being able to get a quick bite and play some cool games is always a great time.

Marv's Dogs is a must-visit in DC! I tried their optional gluten-free hotdog buns and they were soft and flavorful. The dog was clearly quality - not a cheap fast food experience at all. And don’t miss out on the incredible soft serve ice cream. I’m already planning my next visit!
