Omakase Room by Tadayoshi

Tadayoshi Motoa's counter on 14th Street
Tadayoshi Motoa opened his DC counter on 14th Street NW in October 2025, following rooms under the same name elsewhere in the US.
It is omakase in the strict sense: no menu, no substitutions, one seating at a time. Book well ahead and eat what arrives.

Chef Tadayoshi does an excellent job in communicating with and educating you at the Chef's counter, but the Omakase itself was a bit underwhelming. There were only a few remarkable items in the experience. Perhaps other evenings are better, and I would definitely return to engage with Chef Tadayoshi again.

I had a very great time with Chef. Tadayoshi! He has really good care of ingredients, well made sushi and very clean in kitchen and was impressed by his perfection to make great foods!! I had several experiences about Omakese in Korea and first time in the USA and among them, this was THE BEST experience!!

Omakase Room by Tadayoshi was top notch omakase. My spouse and I recently had our anniversary dinner there, and the staff was mindful to congratulate us on our anniversary. It was a nice touch. They were also very mindful of our dietary restrictions, which was very nice. Definitely check out this place if you like omakase!

Had a wonderful birthday dinner here. We’ve done many Michelin star omakase dinners and this is up there with the best of them. Tadayoshi adds the perfect flavor balance to the rice and fish. Highly recommend the sake pairing. There were ~3-4 items we were given that were not shown on the menu.

This was an okay omakase experience. I’ve been to many omakase spots, and this one didn’t really wow me. The chef was knowledgeable and shared some interesting background stories, which I appreciated. However, most of the fish selection didn’t stand out in terms of flavor. It seemed like other guests were enjoying their courses, but it just didn’t quite hit the mark for me. Overall, it felt a bit lacking for the price point.
