The Tail Up Goat team, back in the same room at counter prices

Tail Up Goat closing was bad news for Adams Morgan. The same team reopened the room as Rye Bunny in April 2026, this time counter service and considerably less formal.

Tagliatelle bolognese, soy-marinated pork chops, anchovy toast. The cooking has not dropped; the tablecloths have.

TLDR: Get there early as the line builds, but the wait is completely worth it. Rye Bunny offers a warm, remarkably intentional dining experience with service that makes you feel at home and food that is genuinely laugh out loud good. Jill, Chef Jon, Nicholas, an the rest of the team are worth it to visit alone. When you arrive, you're met with warmth, a quick introduction to their concept, and a drink order right away to pass the time. The space feels like an upscale home; unpretentious, almost like sitting under a tent, paired with an upscale dining experience. What really sets Rye Bunny apart is the intentionality behind the service. You notice it in the heft of the silverware and the perfectly chilled cider glass. Jill checked in multiple times. It genuinely feels like eating in the home of someone who cares about you, yet they haven't lost their fine-dining polish. They replaced plates after every course and folded our napkins when people got up. They also had my strict dietary restrictions completely mapped out before I even ordered and everyone on staff just knew exactly who I was without me having to explain a thing. I came back a second time and everything, from the bites to the service was just as good as the first. Highly recommend. Food: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Price Point: 4.5/5 Atmosphere: 5/5 Overall: 5/5

First of all the food is incredible. There was not a dish that we didn’t devour - hence no pics of anything we ate. Secondly, the service is friendly and laid back - and despite the unique counter style ordering system - it felt like a normal date night spot. The decor is cute and kitschy - I saw other reviews say it was loud - we sat next to a big column so maybe that blocked some of the ambient noise. We couldn’t really pick a favorite thing we ate (we literally licked almost every serving dish)- the veggies here stand out. We had doubles of the cabbage and the broad beans. We also had the beets and the sugar snap peas. For our main we loved the rockfish. The chocolate angel food cake was perfect - light, fluffy and salty sweet. The flavors are still mulling around in my mind - and we saw other items go by we need to go back to try again. Highly highly recommended.

Very accommodating with allergies. I love how many follow up questions they ask to really understand what is needed. I received a marked up menu with everything I could eat or have modified. Also everyone there is so kind!

Outstanding. From the moment you walk in we were greeted and had our drink order taken so while we waited to be seated we able to start enjoying our time at the restaurant. Our food order was placed before we sat down and the servers were very fast to bring out dishes at a reasonable rate. The food was outstanding and fun. It felt like everything on the menu would have satisfied our want for an enjoyable dinner. The restaurant space is very very cute and located in a beautiful neighborhood. Would return and recommend

I have been wanting to eat here since the rebranded from tail Up Goat and all I can say is WOW! The concept is a bit strange (order at the counter then sit and be served multiple courses). However, I think it works well, especially if you get there early and don't have to wait too long. We only waited about 5 minutes at 6pm on a Tuesday, My friends and I split 6 plates. We started with the Frico Tradizionale w Trout Roe - it was pretty good and seems to be highly promoted one their social media so we had to try it. I would probably skip it next time. We also got the Baby Romaine salad, which was delicious and had an interesting cheddar Caesar dressing. The Pork Croquette was next and it was good but small (especially for $21). For the heavier courses, we got the Spinach Tagliatelle, Fried Chicken, and Strip Steak. All were delicious, but my favorite was probably the fried chicken. I would probably get that again. After our meal, they came over and offered a verbal dessert menu of two items: Chocolate Angel Food Cake and Creme Brûlée. We got both and both were amazing! In conclusion, come check out Rye Bunny - it is not cheap and the line might be long but the vibes inside (staff, decor) and the locally sourced meals are amazing! I will be back
