No menu, just Italian wine and whatever's cooking
There's no menu on the wall at Gerald's Bar. It's whatever's being cooked that night, plus a wine list that runs deep on Italy. Sit at the bar and let them decide for you.
The North Carlton favourite reopened on Lygon Street in 2025 and made Broadsheet's list of the city's eleven best new bars. Tram 1 stops close by.

Long time fan of the original Gerald’s, first visit to the new space. We sat in the dining room and had lovely experience. Service was good and attentive. We started with the white anchovies and bread which were as good as ever along with a glass of the bobal which was yum We had the Thai kingfish which was simple but nailed the Thai flavours and the beef cheek which was tender and the standout dish. The side salad was great too. The sidebar with the fireplace probably feels closest to the original Gerald’s atmosphere and energy. Will sit there next time. Just my two cents but the dining room still feels like it’s finding its feet aesthetically. I’m no expert but I think the lighting could be tweaked a little to create a more warmer/intimate/cool atmosphere. And if money were no object I’d probably go with hardwood floors like the old Gerald’s or even carpet. That said, the food, wine, music and service were all on point and we’ll definitely be back.

First visit to Gerald’s Bar! Beautiful atmosphere, wonderful service and a nice range of cocktails and wine options. Enjoyed a refreshing chilled Merlot blend on a 40 degree Saturday afternoon, accompanied by a delicious cheese board. Will be definitely be back to try more food and wine!

Love the new space. It’s large and comfortable with plenty of room for groups. Food and drinks were both great - especially loved the cute mini scotch eggs. Cheese plate was awesome, too.

We shared a selection of delicious dishes and really enjoyed the zucchini flowers, aged rump steak & bonito. There was a small issue with the zucchini flower, so the staff kindly didn't charge us for them and offered our table a complimentary dessert! The staff were all friendly & helpful when we were unsure what to order. Would definitely recommend this restaurant!

Took my partner here for their birthday as a surprise, upon a friend's recommendation. Everything was 10/10. From the attentive and friendly servers, prompt service, well-portioned and finger licking dishes, and beautifully made cocktails. Stars of the evening: Basque Spritz (I don't even like olives but this was phenomenal), broccoli with pickled walnuts (the puréed sauce on the side - wow), and best of all: the Sicilian white anchovies. God I could eat that everyday. All in all, what a spectacular meal and experience. Can't wait to be back.
