The tiny wine bar squeezed in next door

There's no big concept here, just a few stools, a short wine list and snacks, in a shopfront barely bigger than a hallway. That's the whole appeal.

Rathdowne Street goes quiet once the sun sets, so you won't be fighting for a seat. Order something you haven't heard of and let the night stay small.

Such a cute corner bar with a considered food offering. Our flatbread was fluffy and buttery and I really liked how flavourful and saucy the skewers were. Wednesdays are eternal happy hour ($15 carafes and $2 skewers).

I’d heard great things about this place and had been wanting to try it for ages, I finally got to go for my birthday recently and my goodness, it did not disappoint. We shared the flat bread, mussels (which led to the shocking discovery that I actually love mussels), lamb skewers, roo, and a bunch of other absolutely delicious side dishes. Every single thing we ate was incredible, full of flavour and beautifully done. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, the service was fantastic, and the whole experience felt really special. I cannot stop thinking about all of that deliciousness.

I remember seeing so much hype around Melitta Next Door when it first opened, so naturally it went straight onto my list. When I was meeting a friend for dinner nearby, it felt like the perfect opportunity to finally try it. At the time they were walk-ins only (although I believe they now take bookings), which worked out perfectly for us. We arrived around 6:30pm and the restaurant was surprisingly quiet, but by the time we left the space was completely full. Considering it was such a cold and rainy Melbourne evening, it was impressive to see so many people still heading out for dinner. The food was definitely the highlight for me. Everything we ordered was packed with spice, warmth and Mediterranean flavour. The dishes felt unique and unlike a lot of things I’ve tried before, which made the experience memorable. Service was also great — staff were friendly, welcoming and the food came out quite quickly. From an interiors perspective, I do think the fit-out could have been resolved a little better. The bar itself is visually striking and the LED detailing is really cool, however its placement felt slightly awkward within the room, leaving one corner feeling a bit empty while the tables at the front felt very compressed together. A lot of the tables were pushed together which created an almost communal dining setup. Personally, I felt the overall dining space lacked a sense of refinement and felt somewhat unfinished. The furniture leaned very rustic and minimal, which I understand is likely part of the venue’s more casual and affordable dining approach, but I think the layout and overall aesthetic could have been executed more cohesively. That being said, this is purely my personal opinion, and clearly many people love it. The restaurant seems to be doing incredibly well and I’ve consistently heard positive things about it. Overall, the food and atmosphere made it a worthwhile visit, and I can absolutely understand why it’s become so popular.

Delicious! Visited Melitta Next Door last night and everything on the menu is divine. Fast service, no wait time for food, well priced and the ambience and interior is very cool. Favourite dishes include the flatbread (best bread I’ve ever had) pickled mussels, the fried pumpkin, goat stew, sausage, hot honey vegetables… actually you know what, everything! Order everything and anything you can, you won’t be disappointed Very cool spot in Melbourne, will be returning
