Luke Nguyen's fire-grilled Vietnamese seafood at the Fish Market
The name means fire, and that's the whole point: almost everything on the menu passes over coals before it hits your table. Luke Nguyen left Red Lantern years ago and came back with this seafood restaurant inside the new Sydney Fish Market complex.
Get a harbour side table if you can. Order the whole grilled fish with turmeric and dill. It's plenty for two.

What an incredible experience! We had banquet 3 - the special catch, and every single dish was outstanding. Everything was fresh, beautifully presented, and packed with incredible texture and flavour, we honestly couldn’t fault a single thing. If you love Asian cuisine, Lua is an absolute must-try. They absolutely nailed every dish and took classic Asian flavours to the next level with such creativity and balance. The service made the experience even more special. Barry, Jason, and the entire team were so welcoming, attentive, and genuinely made us feel well looked after from start to finish. We’ll definitely be back with family and more friends. Thank you to the entire Lua team for making our celebration so memorable! ☺️

Beautiful! Lua at the new fish markets delivered a beautiful meal. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious, and I’ve uploaded photos of all the dishes we tried, but to keep this review as brief as possible, I’ll just highlight a few standouts. The scallops were exceptional—sweet, delicate and beautifully balanced. The oysters were incredibly fresh, and watching the chef prepare them made the experience feel even more special. The Wagyu steak was wonderfully tender, while the clay pot rice was another favourite, with melt-in-your-mouth pork that was rich, comforting and full of flavour. Dessert was the perfect finish, with the tiramisu carrying beautiful Vietnamese coffee notes that made me want to immediately have an iced coffee (if only I wasn’t so full). A special mention to Jason, who came out to explain the dishes to us. His warmth, generosity and genuine passion for the food added so much to the experience and made us feel truly looked after. The entire team is lovely and the room and view are stunning. Highly recommend.

Had an absolutely terrific experience at Lua. Everything about this place was on point - great location with stunning backdrops, casual but sophisticated setting, excellent service (thanks to the two amazing chefs), and most importantly, the food! Courses were timed and paced well, cooked to perfection and flavours comprising of a wonderful Asian infusion with modern twists. Highly recommend the scallops, bug fried rice and wagyu strips, but to be honest, everything on the menu was simply mouth watering. Definitely worth a visit, you won’t be disappointed!

This was one of the best meals we’ve had in years. We stumbled across Lua in a visit to the Fish Markets, and were immediately attracted to the items on the menu - they did not disappoint. Menu items are a mix of small bites and entrees to share and main courses. We had the kingfish crudo, scallops, ocean trout with betel leaf, Moreton Bay Bug fried rice, and the absolute stand out - the market fish in banana leaf, which was stunning. There’s a good range of beers and wine by the glass, superb mocktails, service was fast, friendly and extremely well informed, the location is excellent. A big plus for us was that just about everything was gluten free, or adaptable (apart from the dumplings) and staff were totally on top of this when it came to order, An absolutely first class meal.

We walked in on a Sunday night around 5pm and sat outside. Overall, it was an amazing experience! The sunset views were beautiful and the food was seriously amazing. I did order a sticky rice cocktail, which wasn’t really to my liking, but honestly the food more than made up for it. Between the two of us and a toddler, we ordered: - Wagyu beef pho tartare - recommend - King fish crudo - recommend - Coral trout dumplings - Scallops with brown butter fish sauce - recommend - Wok-tossed lotus root, Asian mushrooms and choy sum - recommend - Market fish in banana leaf - Moreton Bay bug fried rice - recommend - Wagyu MBS sirloin - recommend - Che bap pudding - recommend - Vietnamese coffee tiramisu - Lemongrass and ginger ice cream Our standout dishes were definitely the Che Bap dessert, Moreton Bay bug fried rice and the wok-tossed lotus root. Those are the dishes I’d come back for in a heartbeat. Coming from a Vietnamese background, we’re already talking about bringing our parents here. The flavours are familiar and nostalgic, but with a twist! We honestly haven’t come across another Vietnamese restaurant quite like this one, so we were pleasantly surprised by how much we enjoyed it. I’d happily order most of the dishes again, with the exception of the market fish only because there are so many other dishes on the menu I’d love to try next time. Definitely a restaurant we’ll be returning to. Date night worthy with the views. It’d also be a great place for group bookings considering how big the restaurant is 😊
