The Clock Tower Square cafe owned by single mothers and widows

Eight single mothers and widows own and staff this cafe on Clock Tower Square, right on the ground floor of Hotel Thimphu Tower. On a square usually ruled by hotel restaurants and tour operators, they're pouring coffee, plating snacks and scooping ice cream.

A mother-daughter team built it to give women without steady income a stake in a business, not just a paycheck. The ice cream counter alone has families detouring off Norzin Lam to stop in.
