Book Bar

A bookshop that turns into a wine bar after dark

Book Bar fills a Victorian townhouse on Markham Street with paperbacks by day and wine by night. The reading nooks actually get used, and the shelves lean hard toward Canadian writers.

Events run most weeks. It's the quietest place to drink in the Annex, which is either the appeal or the problem depending on your night.

I just sat down but I’m already in love with this place and I know I’ll definitely be back - perfect place to read or just work quietly. The staff are also super sweet!

Such a nice little spot. Really cozy and relaxed, and I love the whole books + drinks concept. Easy place to sit for a while and just enjoy the afternoon. Staff were super nice too. Will definitely be back.

A great addition to the city! The store is so cozy and welcoming—great atmosphere. It was so nice to see it full of people and full of books. The employees are very kind and provide great service. I planned my next visit to bookbar before I even left!

Such a beautiful place to sit, read, have a coffee or a cocktail! I hope they create more of these places in the city because it's A WHOLE VIBE! If you haven't checked it out yet, you are missing out!

They set the bar as to what every book bar/cafe should be! The aesthetics of the only place was so lovely, a classy charm throughout the place that made you want to explore with a delicious custom cocktail, look for a good book, find one of the many cute seating arrangements and just enjoy the vibe of the place. We'll happily come back when we find the time to come back downtown. Highly recommend a visit even if you don't live in the area.
