Nīzu Cafe

Directions

Five years of signage before the first cup

Nīzu spent five years as a sign on the corner of West Pender before it served a single cup, long enough to build an audience before opening. Tall glass windows and Japanese influence fill the room now.

Weekday mornings run busy with office traffic from the surrounding towers.

Nizu Cafe is a must visit in Vancouver! We were so lucky that Nizu was just across from our hotel and we were blown away. The yuzu earl grey basque cheesecake is a masterpiece, perfectly smooth, creamy, and uniquely flavorful. The matcha latte was also excellent, made even better by the wonderful barista who heard our conversation with the other staff about cats. She crafted the most adorable cat latte art! That kind of hospitality is rare. I’m so sad I don’t live locally, but I’ll definitely be back next time I’m in town!

Good Matcha spot in Vancouver! I also ordered Ebi katsu sando, which means shrimp cutlets sandwiches, was delicious although a little hard to eat. The atmosphere was cool and the staff were nice too. It was pretty crowded tho

This café’s matcha and katsu sandwich are both incredibly authentic, making me feel as if I were back in Japan. It’s quite rare to find a restaurant of this quality in Vancouver. Although there was a long line when I arrived, the service was very efficient and the food came out surprisingly quickly. The taste, quality, and presentation of the dishes all met my expectations. The matcha was rich and flavorful, while the katsu sandwich was perfectly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Overall, I had a wonderful dining experience. Both the food quality and service efficiency deserve high praise. If you’re looking for authentic Japanese flavors in Vancouver, I highly recommend giving this place a try!

The best Japanese cafe in Downtown! The store is always busy and packed but the food and drinks are both high quality. We really enjoyed the ebi Katsu sandwich, and both the matcha roll cake and the matcha latte had strong matcha flavour. It is definitely hard to find the right timing to visit but it is still worth visiting if you are in the area.

My ebi katsu with nori fries were delicious! I really liked the more pronounced flavour of the matcha from the reserve as well. Also the curry sauce it came with, I wish there was more but it added a bit of spice to my katsu; it’s sweet and mild but a lil bit of spice follows after. Came at the right time before the lunch rush on a Saturday. Was a little loud due to the crowd and also considering I sat at the window, expect to wait for a table for larger groups of up to 4 people. Overall the place was cute and the food and drinks were good! And the staff were nice and explained the difference from their regular matcha to their reserve. Getting here: walk; it’s downtown and that should be enough of an explanation. Although it is beside the Holt Renfrew parkade if needed. And you can fight for paid street parking too. Also please note the star rating is a reflection of the math; 3+4+2=9/15=0.6 ~> 3/5
