Comfort-food tacos on Tiradentes, no fine-dining pretense

El Taconazo keeps it simple: authentic Mexican street food, no fine-dining pretense. Its Instagram handle is @taconazo24, a nod to round-the-clock service in a stretch of Naco with fewer late options than Piantini.

It made a 2025 roundup of the restaurants that shaped the year in Santo Domingo, grouped alongside places with bigger budgets and design press.

Came down to Santo Domingo from Toronto! This place is great and probably one of the best Mexican food places in SD. Shout out to the staff especially Ashley, she took good care of us. We will definitely be back!

As a Dominican who grew up in California and has been surrounded by Mexican food and culture for most of my life, I can honestly say that Taconazo delivers some of the most authentic Mexican tacos I’ve had outside of Mexico. From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere and flavors felt genuine. I ordered a variety of tacos, including Al Pastor, Chicharrón, and Birria, and every bite was packed with flavor. The tortillas tasted fresh, the meats were juicy and perfectly seasoned, and the toppings and salsas complemented everything beautifully. The Al Pastor especially brought back memories of the taco stands I used to visit in California. What impressed me the most was that they don’t try to “Americanize” or reinvent the tacos—they keep them 100% Mexican, just the way they should be. If you appreciate authentic street-style tacos, this place is a must-visit. The service was great, prices were reasonable, and being open 24 hours is a huge plus. Whether you’re craving late-night tacos or just want the real Mexican experience, Taconazo is definitely worth it. As someone who knows Mexican food and culture well, I can confidently say these tacos are the real deal. ¡Deliciosos! 🌮🔥🇲🇽

I didn’t take pictures of the food because we were so hungry, so they told me that the carne asada tacos are made with pork fat and I’m Muslim so that’s a bummer but I had the tinga de pollo and birria tacos that have no pork and I liked them, I liked the chicken tinga better. Wilkerson was our server very nice and talkative and willing!!! I also this you should have ice cups or colder sodas

I went there a week ago with my family and I’m really happy with the customer service that Yairo and Moises provided me, hopefully I wrote those names well. They were pretty nice, even my daughter fell in love with the cashier and his kindness, thank you Yairo and Moises, and of course thank you to the supervisor who was pretty nice as well. I want to bring some employees and more members of my family to see the great service that you provided me, and of course taste the meal with the four tacos, I loved the Pastor one with the Dominican seasoning 🕺🏻🇩🇴🇩🇴❤️ thank you so much, and I will definitely come back soon, muy bueno todo🙏🏻

The best taco in Dominican Republic. From the moment you walk in until the last bite. Everything was delicious. Price was perfect. Best thing is that they are 24/7. Highly recommend.
