An Asturian sidrería built for sharing
The almejas a la marinera and the arroz de ribeye are the two dishes worth building a visit around. Gijón leans into its Asturian identity from the name down, Spanish comfort food in portions built for a table of four or more.
Grupo Brigas handled the construction, and the interior mixes traditional and modern touches. It's become one of the more talked-about openings in Serrallés, a neighborhood that had fewer sit-down options before it arrived.

The food is excellent; everything we ordered was delicious. However, the service could definitely be improved, especially considering we spent over $325 USD on a lunch for two adults and two kids. We ordered a bottle of red wine and watched all the other patrons being served red wine in Bordeaux glasses, while we were given white wine glasses. When I asked if our wine should have been served in different glassware, the waiter casually said, "Not necessarily," but offered to change them. I accepted, and while the sommelier finally brought the correct glasses over, he left without pouring. I had to transfer the wine from the old glasses to the Bordeaux glasses myself, and the sommelier never came back to check on us for the rest of the meal. The sommelier seemed far too busy catering exclusively to regular, wealthy clients. While we are diplomats, we do not belong to the local "country club" crowd. However, I am a paying customer, and my money is worth just as much. It would be nice if management ensured excellent customer service for everyone, not just the well-known, "last-name-royalty" Dominican crème de la crème.

I have heard this referred to as the best Spanish restaurant in the Caribbean, a rather bold claim given number even just here in the DR, but, based on our experience, they are most certainly up there in the running. The food, service and the overall atmosphere are impeccable. Is it expensive, yes, but certainly not unreasonable for the quality of the overall package and we certainly had no complaints about the bill. Overall excellent, albeit in our case one for special occasions, highly recommended.

"Stylish restaurant with a beautiful modern design and excellent ambiance. The food is generally good — some dishes are really outstanding, while others are just average or okay. My only complaint is that the prices are quite high. On the plus side, they offer convenient valet parking."
