Tapas and wine from a MasterChef Ecuador winner
Andrés Arrata took the third season of MasterChef Ecuador in early 2022 and brought the winnings home to Santa Cruz to open this tapas-and-wine room at Charles Darwin and Marchena. The eight-course tasting menu shifts with the season, but a corvina ceviche riffing on the fish-market classic and a tuna-crusted main keep coming back because regulars ask for them by name.
A wine-forward tasting menu is rare in a town built around $8 almuerzos, and this one has stuck. Service runs Saturday through Thursday evenings, Arrata takes Friday off as a kitchen night, not an accident of scheduling.

Absolutely delicious dinner and cocktails. Good pescatarian and vegetarian options. Be sure to book a reservation via WhatsApp as it’s always busy! Wear bug spray - if you don’t have any they offer some.

Super nice place owned by the winner of Masterchef Ecuador 2022! We tried the 7-course meal, and the chef himself served us all evening, telling stories about Ecuador, the different ingrediënts and the origin of the dishes of which he made his own twist. He is full of passion about his culture and food, and everything tasted amazing! He also tries to work as much as possible with local farmers. A must try if you want to taste Ecuador at its finest!

One of the most unique and flavorful tasting menus we’ve ever done. Chef Andrès gives you a full tour of Ecuador and you make your way through each dish, explaining the stories, ingredients and history. The traditional cocktail was delicious and the wine paired well with the meal. Be prepared to take this slow. We were there for 3 hours and savored every minute of it.

Food was good but when it gets busy they can be a bit overwhelmed. Even your reservation time is up, you might still have to wait for a table. Definitely make sure to check in and tell them you have a reservation when you arrive
