Brunch and specialty coffee on Quito's quietest street
Calle Junín in San Marcos is the prettiest street in Quito's historic centre, and until recently it had nowhere decent for coffee or brunch. Altar fixed that.
Most of the old town empties of locals by night and fills with tour groups by day. San Marcos is the corner where that pattern breaks, and Altar is the reason to detour there.

The place is really lovely, the cream on the pastries was delicious, but they were very dry, which isn't worth it for the price. The matcha was very good, and the cappuccino was just okay. Overall, a good experience.

The place is so cute! Very cozy, I loved the matcha with red berries and the Basque cake was spectacular, I would go back 10,000 times ❤️❤️❤️❤️

The place is small but very cozy, the desserts are excellent, the cookies and the Basque cake are very good. The coffee and chai tea are delicious, even the tableware is pretty. The service is very good; they take a little while to take your order, but nothing excessive.

All the ingredients they use are organic, and the flavor of each dish is exceptional. It's also the only café in the area that offers specialty coffee and quality beverages. 💯 Highly recommended! It's pet-friendly*
