A vermouth bar that works as a café until the evening

Velvet opened on Erzsébet tér in October 2025 as a hybrid: coffee and pastry through the day, vermouth and aperitivo from late afternoon. Vermouth-led bars are common in Barcelona and almost unheard of here.

The location on the square by Deák tér puts it in the middle of the busiest pedestrian crossing point in the city, but the room is calmer than that suggests.

Velvet Bar & Café is exactly the kind of place where elegant atmosphere, beautiful interiors and a true sense of quiet luxury come together perfectly. The bar’s motto, “Behind the velvet lies a world of quiet luxury,” captures the entire experience beautifully. During our visit, we tried the signature cocktails — Adria for Ladies and the James Bond Martini Style cocktail — both crafted with precision and presented as elegantly as the venue itself. For food, we highly recommend the beef sliders, while the Pain au Chocolat and Strawberry Lemoncello Cake were the perfect sweet ending to the evening. A special thank you goes to Bogdan, whose professional, respectful and attentive service truly elevated our experience. In luxury hospitality, details and service make all the difference, and everything here was delivered at a very high standard. The bar is part of Al Habtoor Palace Budapest, where we stayed during our time in Budapest (you can read more about Al Habtoor Palace Budapest in our next review) and visiting Velvet Bar & Café became one of the most memorable parts of our stay. I went here for cocktails with my girlfriend on Wednesday night and Bogdán was very nice and professional. The cocktails were great and the atmosphere was even better because of him. We will definitely be back!

Great atmosphere and overall experience. The drinks were excellent, and you can tell the staff really knows their craft. Special shoutout to Bogdan, whose knowledge of spirits stood out and made the whole experience even better. Would definitely come back.

I had a great experience. Bogdan was an excellent bartender, very skilled and easy to talk to. I really enjoyed our conversation about cocktails it made everything feel more personal. The atmosphere was relaxed and enjoyable, and everything was very clean. I’ll definitely be coming back.
