French wine, Belgian beer, poured by the owner himself

In a city built on Beerlao and street food, SeSe stands out for having cheese and charcuterie on the menu at all. The draft list leans Belgian, the bottle list leans French, and the French owner everyone calls Sese greets most tables himself.

The crowd here mixes long-term expats with Lao regulars instead of splitting along nationality lines, and that mix is half the draw. It's a small room in Pakse's old Thaluang quarter, the kind where a slow night turns into a long conversation with whoever's behind the counter.

Good to know

  • The owner, a French expat everyone calls Sese, usually works the floor himself.
  • Cheese and charcuterie plates are the reason to stay past one drink.

My brother really wanted some carbonara pasta because he was sick of asian food, so we ate here. And both the carbonara pasta and curry burger were great, it’s a small french restaurant that also offer wine and great Belgian beer choices. I really recommend if you want to get some european food

Nice to find a French bar with real homemade French fries, not the frozen type. I had an excellent steak with pepper sauce, and an other day a good chicken curry burger. Good place for meeting fellow travellers and get some advice from Sese.

A French 'greasy spoon' cafe and bar. I had a cheeseburger, which was OK, average at best, but the soggy fries that came with it were some of the worst I've ever had. On the plus side, the margeritas were excellent! The staff were nice and helpful. The beer selection was very good for Laos as well. Not a charming place to sit though, hard wooden chairs and no decour, just beige walls all around and cigarette smoke drifting in from outside.

Loved the beef burger. I believe most things, including the burger buns, were made in house which is a great touch. Nice hand cut chips too and reasonably priced. Be aware it's a busy place so it might be full.

The only place with import beers I could find in the area (wish drinks were colder!). The food was surprisingly good. Vegetarian burger was delicious. Super simple design. I would never say they serve this level of food and drinks if I won’t check the menu and reviews. Unfortunately AC didn’t cope with work so it was really hot inside. However food and drinks satisfied me.
