Dutch-French neighbourhood bistro with its own vegetable garden
Roef sits on the Middenweg in Watergraafsmeer. Owner Eshwin Boetting named it after his grandfather Roelof, who kept a large vegetable and herb garden behind the family home. That same garden now grows behind the restaurant.
It feeds into a menu that mixes Dutch and French influences, built for sharing and changing with the seasons every two to three months.

Been here before, but think under a different name and owner. This time, very surprised with the level of the food, everything was outstanding, exceeded our expectations massively. I’d recommend anyone to drop in at get some of the finger foods, do not miss out on that. 👏 for the chef who made the menu, seriously

It was a quiet evening and that affected the atmosphere a bit. Food and service were great, though. Fantastic beef in the shared food options, cooked to perfection.

Fantastic experience. Had called beforehand to ask whether vegan options were possible and ended up eating one of the best vegan dinners I have ever had. The meals were full of flavors and interesting combinations, the waiters very available and kind and the atmosphere very cozy and warm. Cannot recommend it enough!

Interesting à la cart menu and very nice quality food. Good wine and cheese selection. Nice vegetarian options. Service was friendly. Music a bit too popular but to my taste. Will return!

Me and my partner went for the 4 course chefs menu. The first 2 courses were outstanding. Very high standard, tasty, surprising, all great. The main course, was okay, the beef a little overcooked and the coffee sauce was a nice try but didn't really work well. I'm not a great dessert lover, but it pleasantly surprised me again. Service was friendly and helpful, but at times a bit absent. Overall a good experience. Would recommend.
