Ground-floor bistro in the new Cappelen Damm building

Halvbroren opened in 2025 on the ground floor of Cappelen Damm's new headquarters in Stortingsgata, a minute from Nationaltheatret station. The same building also houses the café Elling, so the block has gone from publishing offices to a small food cluster.

Mains land around 425 kroner, which puts it in the pre-theatre bracket rather than the cheap-eats one. Reviews have been mixed; go for the room and the location as much as the cooking.

We had wonderful drinks, dinner, and overall service at Halvbroren. The rotisserie meats are fantastic-we enjoyed the pork best. The whole team (bartender, wait staff, chef, manager) was friendly and fun. We will be back!

Definitely a place worth revisiting. The service was outstanding—we felt genuinely welcomed from the moment we arrived until the end of our visit. The team was attentive, highly service-oriented, and demonstrated solid knowledge of both food and beverages, which elevated the overall experience. If you find yourself in Oslo, this is a venue well worth experiencing.

Bosh! What a spot! Delicious food, great atmosphere, proper service! Friendly staff, especially Emma (Lucy) ;) Recommend it highly! We had a few courses to share, super easy, doesn’t brake the bank, perfect for a pit stop before the metro, or a full dinner! Just try it out!

Just left after a lovely evening at Halvbroren in Oslo! Talk about great food, interior, atmosphere, and the professional/knowledgeable Enrique! He made us feel so welcome and went all in to make sure we had a great time. Highly recommend the people, the food and the place. I look forward to returning again soon. A fantastic new addition to Oslo! Thank you.
