La Cabra Loca

★ 5.0 · 119 reviews Cádiz Opened June 2024

Cheese from someone who actually knows the farms

Skip the supermarket wedge. La Cabra Loca packs a tiny space on Calle Hospital de Mujeres with aged and fresh cheeses from small dairies, plus jamón, paletilla and cured sausage, all picked by a guy who spent twenty years working directly with the producers.

Every Tuesday, José Gago runs a sit-down tasting where he'll walk you through a few cheeses and tell you exactly who made them. Come hungry and curious.

Spectacular! Fantastic product...the seller is amazing...a true expert in cheeses and recipes. Highly recommended; you can't pass by the shop without buying something. It's definitely worth listening to him.

I highly recommend, please and thank you, that it be a must-see in Cádiz, a World Heritage Site!! Thank you so much for all the knowledge you shared about unpasteurized cheese with such passion and joy ❤️ Big hug!

I don't know if I like the cheeses more—they're all amazing—or the owner's conversations. It's a pleasure to go, take some pieces of excellent cheese, listen to Jose Gago's explanations, and above all, have a good laugh at his silly jokes. 10 out of 10!

What a wonderful place! It's so great to keep finding shops like this. Jose is one of a kind, both in his friendliness and his knowledge of his work. There are so few businesses left with handcrafted products and an expert who can advise and recommend... I hope it continues for a long time. Thank you. And until next time.

Jose Gago is a spectacular, top-notch host. One of my friends has a cow's milk allergy, and he adapted the tasting to our needs perfectly. A highly recommended experience with fascinating cheese history and flavors. It exceeded our expectations!
