Taiwan literature, up a hidden staircase

You'd walk past this one if nobody pointed you to the stairwell on Yiyong Road. Climb it anyway. The shelves have a clear focus: Taiwan literature, Southeast Asian writing and nature writing, with real attention paid to books by and about the migrant workers and new residents who keep southern Taiwan running.

There's coffee, and nobody rushes you out. Hours run short and shift by season, so check the Facebook page before you climb. Kaohsiung doesn't have many rooms doing this kind of quiet, deliberate work.
