A French bistro hiding inside an art museum
The glasshouse above the Taipei Fine Arts Museum's south entrance doesn't look like a restaurant from outside, but Richie Lin's MMHG group (the team behind Mume) runs a proper French bistro up there. Mornings mean a bright brunch room; after 5:30pm it turns serious, plates running until 11pm.
Bonami means good friend, and the food matches: French home cooking, not tweezer plating. Watch planes drift over the park through the museum windows while you eat.

Every plate we ordered was great for sharing. The PDR was very comfortable for our group with 2 toddlers. Definitely a heavier meal and not a lot of vegetarian options.

If you are like me, feeling slightly exhausted by the fine dining scenes here in Taipei, I'd recommend to come visit Bonami. No gimmick, just pure classic French brasserie style food cooked to perfection. As someone who spent several years living in Europe, I'd say this place is the closest thing you can get to comfort your European palate as it did for me. Great variety of hors 'doeuvre / appetizers and every single dish was excellent. My personal favourite was the sweetbread, which is rare to be featured in restaurants in Taiwan. The sourdough came with some of the dishes was equally marvelous - we ordered more even if we were quite full. Staffs were friendly and helpful. The vibe was relaxing and lights were dimmed, great for intimate date night. A major bonus is that they open late - like 11pm closing time late, which makes this place a perfect venue for small gathering with wine and laughters. All in all I truly enjoy the night spent here in this underrated hidden gem (spoiler: its literally hidden in the parking lot next to Taipei Fine Arts Museum) and will definitely come back soon.

A romantic French bistro. Unlike most other restaurants offering modern wines, this bistro features classic French home cooking. Each dish clearly demonstrates the meticulous attention paid to detail. The dish we ordered that day was seasoned with a strong flavor profile, a bit too acidic... My favorite Duck Rillette had a bit too much rosemary. While still delicious, I think it could be improved. I loved the ambiance and atmosphere; it was comfortable, relaxed, and romantic.
