Novo Lantern

★ 4.8 · 164 reviews Boston Opened 2026

Soup dumplings and Chinese cooking on Washington Street, since January 2026.

Novo Lantern opened on the lower stretch of Washington Street in January 2026, well south of the restaurant cluster most visitors see. Soup dumplings are the headline, made in-house rather than bought in.

The dining room is small and doesn't take large groups well. Two or four people, and go before 7pm.

Jack was so incredibly kind and attentive during our visit. He really made the experience feel special. Also the younger guy with glasses was really nice and talked to us throughout the night! We loved the overall atmosphere here, and because of service like his and Jack’s, we are definitely planning on coming back soon! Highly recommend.

Great Chinese food in the middle of Boston. I love the family style dining. I had: 1. Pecking duck 2. Duck soup 3. Xiao long bao 4. Sizzling beef

The interior is so cute! We ordered soup dumplings and beef scallions skillet so delicious. We came later but they served us and didn't kick us out even if we stayed 30 mins past closing. Very friendly staff. I highly recommend

We went for lunch on a Saturday and got the half duck as well as some soup dumplings and crispy dumplings and everything hit the spot! I would actually argue that this is one of the best Peking ducks in boston and I've had Peking duck at 6 different restaurants here!

The restaurant has a nice atmosphere and looks clean and inviting. It was also nice to see the dumplings being made fresh in front of customers. The service was good, and the chicken dumpling soup was tasty. One small suggestion would be to provide a larger soup spoon, as it would make the soup easier to enjoy. Overall, the food was decent, but nothing particularly memorable stood out. One issue was the timing of the dishes. The food came out one item at a time instead of together. By the time the next dish arrived, we had already finished the previous one. The fried rice came out last when most of the other food had already been eaten. It would be much better if the fried rice and other dishes were served closer together so everything can be enjoyed as a meal rather than separately. Overall, a pleasant place with good service and fresh-made dumplings, but the food pacing could be improved.
