Regional Thai cooking in Arun's old dining room
Arun's Thai ran on North Kedzie for 39 years, built a name on a set tasting menu, and became one of the most decorated Thai restaurants in the country before it closed at the end of 2024. Pok Pok Thai took over the space in June 2026 and dropped the prix fixe.
What replaced it is a la carte and regional: moo ping and kor moo yang off the grill, khao soi from the north, massaman curry, yen ta fo in its unmistakable pink broth. Cheaper, louder, and open to ordering whatever you feel like.

WOW. I am so grateful to have this place in the neighborhood. We had the fresh spring rolls, vegetable fried rice, chicken pad Thai, cucumber salad, and mango sticky rice. EVERYTHING was extraordinary.

Pok Pok Thai • Thursday, 23 July 2026 We had a fantastic experience at Pok Pok Thai! The service was exceptionally friendly and attentive from the moment we walked in. We started with the chicken gyoza, which was cooked perfectly and made for a great opener. For our main spreads, we shared a delicious mix of flavorful dishes: ° Pineapple Fried Rice with Shrimp: A great balance of sweet and savory with perfectly cooked shrimp. ° Moo Dad Diew (Pork): Savory, rich, and well-seasoned. ° Larb Neua Northern Style (Beef): Packed with bold, fresh herbs and great heat. ° Kai Yang Isan Style (Chicken): Tender, flavorful, and wonderfully prepared. To top it all off, both the Thai Iced Tea and Green Tea Iced Tea were refreshing and well-crafted. Highly recommend checking this spot out if you're looking for delicious, authentic flavors and great hospitality!

I placed a pick up order this evening and upon entering the restaraunt I was greeted by a waitress that was friendly and attentive. I inquired about a menu item and if it could be altered to accommodate my dietary restrictions and she promptly went and spoke with the chef. She reported back that they could accommodate my request which was great to hear. I was impressed by the ambiance and decor. I ordered two items and both of them were flavorful and delicious. This restaraunt is a great addition to the neighborhood!

Great place for truly authentic Thai, not your typical average neighborhood Thai. The food was great—very flavorful, with quality ingredients and expert preparation…everything tasted freshly prepared to order, nothing precooked and reheated. The atmosphere was very nice…special enough for a date night, but also casual and comfortable enough to be a neighborhood favorite.

What a new hidden gem in the neighborhood! We dined in for dinner, and everything - from the veggie rolls to the chicken pad Thai and garlic bowl - was delicious. The service was excellent, and I especially appreciated that both our server and the cook stopped by to check on how we were enjoying the food and whether the spice level was just right. Already planning our return visit.
