Afro-Caribbean cooking from a chef who left the big restaurant groups
Mychael Bonner spent most of his career cooking European food inside Lettuce Entertain You before turning to the food of the African diaspora on his own terms. His Kedzie Avenue space has been the base for CMB Catering since 2023. Weekend brunch ran there for a year before dinner service started in February 2026.
The menu is short and Afro-Caribbean: shrimp fondue and crisp plantain chips to start, caramel rum cake at the end. Dinner runs Wednesday to Saturday. Sunday is still brunch, the fixture that came first.

What an incredible experience! The food, service and drinks were absolutely amazing. We had the short rib, the coco bread, and the salmon for lunch and everything was flavorful. The drinks (rum punch and lemon meringue martini) were also excellent and strong! Service was amazing and watching them prepare everything fresh was awesome.

Great food and great atmosphere for a nice, quiet and relaxing brunch! It was like we were transported to a resort from the moment we walked in; customer service was 5 stars, airy atmosphere, and the presentation of the dishes had a nice artistic flair. I felt like I was eating art. Highly recommend the oxtail!

Why have we not been here before. This place is outstanding. Short ribs, shrimp creole appetizer, peach cobbler, sweet potatoes, and we actually had more! The vibe is really good and so was the service. Nice diverse crowd too. Top of my list!

Adorable little restaurant here in Chicago! We stumbled upon it on our walk back and we’re delightfully welcomed for happy hour by Marcus and Asia. We had the elder flower lemon, blueberry cocktails, and they were spectacular. The whole place is very new, modern, and contemporary with lots of great art on the walls and a very comfortable atmosphere for dining area. Very clean and the service was impeccable. Whole staff was definitely attentive. Highly recommend checking it out.

i came with friends for a birthday dinner. since we were a larger group with 9 people, there was a wait until tables opened up. nonetheless, our waitress Kyndell had us situated in a waiting area. she was super attentive and got us set up with some appetizers and drinks. we enjoyed the coco bread with spiced honey butter, date glazed sweet potatoes, and fried potato bites. the cucumber za’atar gimlet was a perfect way to quench my thirst. for entree, our table ordered grilled branzino, roasted amish chicken, braised oxtail, and short rib pepperpot. the highlight for me definitely has to be the branzino and chicken! the branzino was beautifully cooked over a bed of couscous and served with a green herby sauce and just melted in my mouth. as for the chicken, we were incredibly impressed by how juicy and flavorful it was. chicken skin can be a tricky part to cook right because it’s so fatty and does not easily soak up flavor, but the chefs managed to work some magic. in addition, there was so much chicken that came with one dish, that it could even serve two. finally for dessert, we all split the peach. overall, our group had such a pleasant experience. our food arrived in a timely manner despite the size of our group. also the ambience and decor was super cozy. i am absolutely looking forward to going back.
