Szechuan Bistro
★ 4.5 · 90 reviews Chicago Opened June 2026
From the Chinatown food court basement, into its own room
Szechuan Bistro built its following in the basement food court at Richland Center in Chinatown, the kind of stall people describe by directions rather than an address. In June 2026 it opened a standalone restaurant on South Halsted in Bridgeport.
The cooking hasn't been softened for the move. The Sichuan menu carries the same numbing heat it did downstairs, only now with proper tables and a full room to eat it in.

I really don’t understand why the review of this restaurant is not high. I went to this restaurant with my boyfriend and it was an amazing experience❤️The food was soooo delicious and it taste like authentic Chinese food(I had lived in china for few years, I promise they taste same or even better)! Also, my boyfriend is kinda picky for the food ingredients so we asked for some modifications for menu and the lady was so friendly to take care of all of our requirements. It was such a warm place to enjoy true Szechuan food. I am sure I will come back to Chicago to try the other menu from this restaurant!!

Best Szechuan food in Chicago!!!! All the dishes here are truly amazing and made with so much care. The quality of the dishes shine through, the price is great and the portions huge. The cauliflower stir fry and the spicy fried chicken were my personal favorites! My Chinese friend that brought me here frequents this place and you could tell that everyone in the restaurant was here from word of mouth. We waited 30 minutes for a table though, having arrived at peak dinner time.

The first time when we went there, we were amazed. It was authentic Chengdu food and my palette was in heaven. The food was super spicy which we loved, we went a few weeks in a row, and the spice was more minimal each time. </3 :( Maybe they are trying to fit into the majority of taste, but its sad to see authenticity crumble again… Please fix this issue. Thank you
