Beethoven Market

A 1949 corner grocery reopens as Mar Vista's Cal-Italian dining room
Beethoven Market sold groceries on the corner of Palms Boulevard for seventy-five years before restaurateur Jeremy Adler bought it in 2023. It reopened as a restaurant on 29 March 2025, with chef Michael Leonard in the kitchen.
Adler kept what he could of the building. The original wood ceiling and steel beams were restored, and a vintage meat scale from the old store hangs over the expediting station. The food is Cal-Italian and deliberately unfussy: handmade pastas, wood-fired pizzas, pork collar with roasted fennel, hanger steak with onion agrodolce. Reservations got hard to land within weeks.
Good to know
- Reservations are difficult, the bar and walk-in seats are the realistic route.

A must visit for anyone living in the surrounding areas and it’s even worth the visit from anywhere in LA. It’s located in a residential area so street parking is very easy. The menu leans Italian and we tried the marinated olives (abundant portion), sausage pizza, and duck bolognese. Everything came out quickly, hot, and fresh with an extra shoutout to the crispy, light pizza crust. Can’t wait to visit again and enjoy an evening on the patio. At 5pm when they opened on a Sunday the place was packed pretty quickly so book a reservation just in case.

Mushroom pizza was the best and definitely makes my top pizzas in LA. Lemon linguine was a little too sour for my taste but my partner liked it. Wish we got riccotta with our foccacia because on its own it was just ok. I would love to come back and try their other pizzas and pastas.

A lovely beautiful restaurant in Mar Vista. The restaurant was lively on a Sunday afternoon, and we made brunch resys for 12pm. Wish we did outdoors because the weather was so nice; and indoors can get a tad too loud. Everything on the brunch menu sounded delicious, we went with the Cacio E Pepe egg toast, zucchini pizza and seasonal peach and burrata dish. We LOVED the zucchini pizza (dough/bread was delicious and the toppings complimented the dish so well). Cacio e Pepe eggs were fun, toast was a tad burnt. And the seasonal burrata and peach app was fresh and light. Our server offered hot sauce without notifying us that it was an additional $2. If we had known, we wouldn’t have ordered it…wish they would let their customers of this extra charge moving forward.

Classy, welcoming, relaxing atmosphere. Good food, good service. Convenient location and cute dog-friendly outdoor patio. Menu is varied enough to satisfy most tastes and preferences. The virgin Bloody Mary was quite nice and perfectly spiced while the chicken sandwich and the asparagus with eggs were both well portioned and delicious.

Top notch brunch! The patio seating on a 70 degree and sunny day was perfect. Lots of umbrellas for shade making the space very comfortable. I love that this restaurant is tucked away in the neighborhoods, which adds to its charm. We ordered lattes, lemon ricotta pancakes, a cacio e pepe toast, and a focaccia sandwich. Everything was delicious, but the lemon ricotta pancakes stole the show with the berry compote and whipped cream on top. It came with syrup but you honestly don’t need it since the compote is generous and sweet enough. The servers were attentive and our food came out in good time despite the restaurant being quite busy on a Saturday morning. Overall I would definitely recommend - would love to come back for dinner next time!
