Daybird
★ 4.5 · 323 reviews Los Angeles Opened July 2026
A Sichuan-heat chicken sandwich, reopened on Melrose and La Brea.
Daybird left Silver Lake in July 2026 and reopened at the corner of Melrose and La Brea. The draw hasn't changed: a Sichuan hot chicken sandwich built on numbing pepper heat instead of the Nashville kind, plus a version topped with cod roe.
The new room doesn't look like a chicken shop. Marble counter, gold rooster lamps, something closer to a cocktail bar than the counter-service spot it actually is.

I went to the restaurant today. I have watched her on television on Food Network. The sandwich was excellent however, the fries were not up to par. They were overcooked overdone. I think if you’re creating this environment, you have to have really good sides especially you on Food Network things need to be better.! or you just take away the sides and just have good sandwiches

Daybird on Melrose is doing two things — Szechuan hot chicken and a Cod Fish Sando — and they are knocking both out of the park. The space is sleek and minimal — dark wood paneling, marble counters, brass accents and just a handful of seats. It feels elevated without being pretentious, and the staff were friendly and genuinely welcoming from the moment we walked in, which on Melrose is not always a given. We ordered the Cod Fish Sando and it delivered in every way. The fish was perfectly crispy and flaky with zero fishy aftertaste — the kind of fish sandwich that converts people who think they don't like fish sandwiches. The house sauce was mild but packed with flavor, herby and creamy and generously applied. We went mild on the heat and it was approachable and delicious, but the menu runs all the way up to extreme if you're feeling brave. At $20 the Cod Fish Sando is on the pricier side, and the fact that it comes without a side is a bit of a letdown at that price point. The sandwich itself is a nice size and the quality is there, but tossing in fries or at least giving you the option would go a long way. Fries are available but at $4 extra, you're pushing $25 for a fish sandwich and a side — something to keep in mind. One more heads up — parking is brutal. Street parking only on Melrose, so build in extra time to find a spot. Worth the hassle, but go in knowing that. Daybird is a standout spot with genuinely great food. Get the fish sando, add the fries, and enjoy the vibe. Just don't expect a bargain.

Food was really good and our favorite dish was the fish sandwich. I came with friends who were visiting LA and we got one of everything on the menu to split. The habanero ranch is a must get. I did not really enjoy the chicken sandwich as the slaw was spicy. I would visit again with any guests who are craving a fancy chicken experience.

Came for the codfish Sando which is available in limited quantity daily. Staff are really friendly and will help you along with your order should you need any help with your order. The fish burger is really good and the tartare sauce they put on it is amazing. Can also order a side of the daybird sauce that they have and it has a really good umami flavor that goes very well with the fries. Would be back again to try the chicken Sando too.

One of my favorite chicken sandwich places. The Szechuan style fried chicken is juicy and tender and flavorful with the sauce and the buns, veggies and all are excellent. It has a nice kick to it depending on the spice level you try. There's also a caviar addon that my friends enjoyed last time. The fries are also very good. The staff is nice and chill. Seating is a bit limited with standing room to eat.
