Six tables, one induction burner, serious banchan

Banchan is the point here, not the warm-up act: tahini-glazed mushrooms, yellow beans in peanut-persimmon sauce, an oxtail terrine that could carry a menu on its own. Kitchen tools hang on the wall like rakes in a garage.

Beyond the banchan there's tteokbokki under melted cheese, dak mandu guk, and a squash stew with short rib, all cooked off a single induction burner. Natural wine comes from Parcelle next door, soju if you want something colder.

Good to know

  • Natural wine is sourced from Parcelle next door. Soju is the other route.

had a great dinner. the space is intimate and cozy. really enjoyed the conversations i had with some of the other patrons. it definitely is expensive for korean food compared to what you can find in ktown or queens but sunn’s does a bit of a modern take on it. we tried hwe (my fave dish of the night), endive salad, banchan (garlic shoots stood out), dumplings (great flavor), ssam (tasty), and honey cake.

If you’re looking for traditional Korean food this is not the place, but if you’re looking for a nicer, wine bar vibe with interesting fusion flavors then I would recommend. We ordered the hwe, banchan set, and ssam and it was enough for two people. While I can’t say I agree with paying $25 for banchan that is usually free, they were delicious and definitely a bit more upscale than you’d typically receive. Overall a cute spot for a special occasion or date night. Wine was good, too!

I came here because it’s one of the restaurants that give the Chase Sapphire Reserve $150 OpenTable credit. It’s a very small and narrow restaurant but creates a cute, intimate environment. They have an extensive wine selection and some unique drinks on their menu. The food though was just okay. The Hwe was steelhead trout with pickled strawberry. The Ssam was very tender and juicy. The other dishes were not very impressive, especially the Banchan which as some other reviews have said, seems a bit ridiculous to charge $25 for when many other Korean restaurants give this for free. The service was great though. I just wish the food was a little more special given the price tag and the location. Hwe 9/10 Banchan of the Day 6/10 Ssam 9/10 Spicy Tomato Tteokbokki 6/10

The host who was also our server.. he’s amazing!!!! Food wise… I waited so long to try this place. I wanted to like it so bad. The whole time me and my friend were trying to convince ourselves that the food was fine but it just… unfortunately was the most letdown experience I’ve had based on how much hype it got. Maybe we prefer the midtown/k-town flavour instead. The banchan overall was so salty. The tteoboki just didn’t feel like anything special, mostly felt like ketchup with melted cheese. However! The rice that came with the banchan set was cooked very well !! Maybe other peoples palette is more suited for food here, but just so you know - service is amazing the vibe is great.

One of the new hot spots that opened not so long ago. I had high expectations going in 👀 It’s definitely a challenge to have to order banchan (appetizers) when culturally they come complimentary at Korean restaurants. I quite liked the tteokbokki that was served in a lasagna style, but my friend did not…so it definitely just depends on each person’s taste! The salad was refreshing so I would recommend that as well 👍🏼
