A small cafe on F Street

It fills a real gap: the Gaslamp has plenty of places to drink at midnight and almost nowhere decent at nine in the morning. Pastry and coffee, morning-weighted.

Con Azucar opened at 531 F Street in the Gaslamp at the end of August 2025, a small cafe on a block otherwise given over to nightlife.

The place itself is great, Food was good 8/10 & service is great. I would say the location is not too great, Once you walk out it smells horrible & there is trash containers from the restaurant next door not so delightful when you just had a good breakfast.

I had a wonderful experience at Con Azúcar, where the avocado toast and café de olla were absolutely delicious! We also tried the small conchas, which were tasty, though they could have been served warmer. However, our second visit to Casa Frida was quite different. I ordered the chilaquiles verdes, but the waitress strongly recommended the chilaquiles blancos instead. When I asked for a cold chocolate, she brought me a chocolate con fresa instead. Unfortunately, the chunks of strawberry made it difficult to sip through the straw. Given these inconsistencies, I think we'll stick to the avocado toast and coffee for our next visit.

Definitely a place you want to go in downtown if you want to go solely for pictures or videos. The atmosphere was really nice very beautiful and very colorfully creative The staff was also very prompt and very friendly and showed us to our table almost immediately. The drinks were the best part they have authentic and very creative Mexican inspired drinks from Matcha to a regular latte. The food however, was a little overpriced and a little unremarkable. As far as Mexican food goes in San Diego still overall a really great place to go.

Magda was an excellent server! Very knowledgeable on the menu and made great recommendations. The food was excellent! We got the chilaquiles and they were delicious. The cafe de olla was so delicious! The environment is very clean and well kept as well! We will definitely be coming back!!
