A listening bar with a pulse, in Little Italy

Kiku Room opened in Little Italy in October 2025 at 2812 Kettner Boulevard. Richter and business partner Paul Scappechio built it as a listening bar that pushes back against the format: where most lean chill, Kiku is meant to have energy.

Cocktails are priced low for the neighbourhood, deliberately. Music with a pulse, in Richter's phrase, so do not come expecting a hushed room and side-A ambient.

Really is an audiophile paradise. Loved the tunes, one local DJ and one from Berlin. Craft cocktails were top-notch if a bit pricey. I brought some Loops because I knew it would be loud. The thing that totally killed the vibe was vaping inside - I left early because it was excessive. Last time I checked, also illegal. It ruined the experience, was a distraction from the music and cocktails and just gross. I planned to go to multiple nights for some international selectors I recognized but cancelled plans because of the smoking.

Went in with a couple friends on a Friday night and had a really good time overall. The place had a relaxed vibe without feeling too loud, which honestly made it easier to just hang out and enjoy the night. The cocktails were balanced and didn't taste overloaded with syrup like you get at some places. Bartender was cool too, gave us a few suggestions based on what we liked instead of pushing the same drinks on everyone. Food was decent and came out pretty quick. Not perfect, but the expereince felt easy and enjoyable enough that I'd come back again.

Pretty rare that a venue with this much hype lives up to expectations. Excellent cocktails at a price point that will make you forget covid happened. Vibes are on point. Sound system is stellar & a gem for vinyl enthusiasts 9/10 would come back. The other person would probably prefer Firehouse and Dom Dolla.

One of the coolest new spots in San Diego in my opinion. This is the original location of the Casbah, it then languished for years as the Kava Lounge, a strange spot for wooks, and finally it became Kiku Room. Kiku Room has a chic minimalist interior, with polish concrete, metal, and glass as the primary backdrop. The DJ booth is large and separates the front sitting area from a lounge in the back that is draped in deep red lighting. The bartenders are cool and welcoming, the DJs who come through are usually really good, and the lounge is quite comfortable as well. Pretty good price on drinks overall, too. You can get a glass of draft Asahi here for $7, for instance, which is pretty good for a place that’s in this DTSD-adjacent area.

From the moment I walked in I knew this was the place for me. Excellent drinks. Superb vibes. It’s unassuming from the outside but inside tells such a vibrant story. If you’re a music lover, this place is for you. If you’re a cocktail connoisseur, this place is for you. If you’re not sure what you want, this place will answer it for you. Beautifully curated music, fantastic vibes, this place has it all. Music forward but approachable for anyone. Glad I made a special trip here
