Vietnamese coffee on El Cajon Boulevard, past the phin

Chance's Coffee opened on 25 October 2025 at 2311 El Cajon Boulevard. The owners moved to San Diego from Seattle and San Jose in 2021 and spent their first year trying a new coffee shop a week, looking for the Vietnamese coffee they grew up with and not finding it.

Saigon Coffee eventually arrived and went deep on traditional phin drip, which they rate but is not what they wanted to make. Chance's sits somewhere between that and a modern espresso bar. The condensed milk drinks are the reason to come.

Very yummy Vietnamese coffee. My husband wanted to check this spot out. It’s a pretty nice little cafe. He order two drinks & a cinnamon roll. (Which we ate later at home.) He had the “Pho cold brew”rated it 8/10 (nice strength.) I had the “chances Vietnamese coffee w/ pandan & ube cream” I rate it a 10/10 . He said customer service was this pleasant. We would def go back here as it is one of our local coffee shops. As far as 🅿️ its street parking. Check it out. Support small businesses.

Vietnamese coffee + dog friendly = the ultimate combo I love that the coffee shop is not only so friendly to dogs but they got great coffee as well. I got the Chance's Vietnamese coffee which is topped with ube and pandan cream. Wonderful atmosphere: great for working and socializing. And it's so awesome that they regularly have different events. I wish I lived closer so I can be a regular. Also the photo booth on the back is such a sweet addition - get some pics with your pup! Wish I had been able to bring my rescue pup Chance before he crossed the rainbow bridge but now this will be our spot to honor his life 🫶

Stumbled across this gem while on a walk! I always like to walk in places to see menus & I was immediately drawn to the deliciousness they offered. They even have their own twist on cold brew - it’s pho! Sounds odd, but I loved it! + where else can you get this?! Additionally, we got the Pandan Double latte & the Vietnamese Coffee w/ Ube & Pandan foam. Both were 10/10! We ended up sitting there playing back gammon for about an hour because the ambiance was perfect.

I felt the need to make this review due to the great service and delicious drinks. First off, who doesn’t love the story behind the name of the coffee shop. As a dog lover this melts my heart. Before taking a sip of our drinks outside on the patio, mine was accidentally spilt. Someone rushed over immediately to clean up the mess and asked what they should remake. Incredible service right there, that is SO appreciated. Our drink was remade immediately and we were impressed by the quick fix that helped alleviate an embarrassing situation. We ordered the double matcha as well as the black sesame matcha since I had been craving one. It is hard for me to find a black sesame matcha on the menu in a lot of coffee shops but this one surpassed expectations. I will be coming back over and over again for this drink. We also came when they had a pizza pop up in the back area which tasted amazing, and proceeds were donated to a good cause. My only complaint is that I wish there were more seats inside but we took our pizza to go! I can see why this place is popular and there was a line as we left. Thank you Chance’s coffee for your hospitality and see you soon!

I like the coffee and the atmosphere, but I would NOT recommend the food. It took twice as long for the avocado toast to come out compared to coffee and attached is what they gave me. It was $10. They also forgot the puppuccino :(
