Grip, rip and dip bagels, first SoCal outpost
PopUp Bagels opened its first Southern California shop at 637 Pearl Street in La Jolla on 21 November 2025, importing an East Coast format San Diego had not seen: bagels served warm and whole, torn by hand and dipped rather than sliced and smeared.
You order bagels and tubs separately. It sounds like a gimmick and mostly isn't, because the bagels come out of the oven often enough to be genuinely hot. Go early; the good tubs sell out.

Stopped by this bagel spot in La Jolla and was really impressed. We picked up a half dozen assorted bagels with the scallion cream cheese, and everyone loved them. They disappeared pretty quickly, which is always a good sign. The bagels were awesome—soft and chewy on the inside with a nice crispy outside. They had a lot of flavor on their own, even before adding the cream cheese. The scallion cream cheese was fresh, creamy, and went great with every bagel we tried. The price was solid too, six bagels and a schmear for $24 felt pretty reasonable, especially for La Jolla. I’m usually more of a meat-for-breakfast kind of person than a bagel person, but these definitely won me over. If a bagel can make me forget about bacon for a few minutes, it’s probably worth coming back for. I’d definitely stop here again the next time I’m in the area.

Great great bagels. I've tried many and these ones are so so good. Great taste. It's more of a “dipping bagel” experience; they don't offer any sandwiches or ingredients. But totally worth it. 🥯🌈 It was crowded, but the line moved fast.

I didn't expect much coming here due to their small menu but they were surprisingly good! Great customer service as well when an employee gave us an extra bagel due to one of their flavors not being available. It's an easy recommend overall.

Delicious bagels! I can see why it has so many good reviews, I’m very glad we stopped at this place. Sea salt was my favorite!

Woah! This is the BEST bagel shop I’ve ever been to. I have family on the east coast and I’ve been eating New York bagels since I was a little girl but wow, I think these are better (Aunt Rita, please don’t be mad at me haha). I’m an everything bagel kinda gal but the salt just HITS with the scallion cream cheese like no other. We can’t get enough of this place. And the staff is great, there’s this sweet blonde gal who is absolutely amazing!!! I wish I knew her name, she is SO cool and if the bagels weren’t enough to bring us back day after day, she is!!! Appreciate you - hope she sees this! Rosie, Marc & Pip 🫶
